CareRipples at WorkBC Vancouver Midtown: Improving Healthcare Access in BC

On March 31, we continued our mission to strengthen healthcare access across British Columbia by hosting an educational session at WorkBC Vancouver Midtown as part of the CareRipples initiative.

In partnership with Kenneth and the dedicated team at WorkBC Midtown, we brought together staff and program participants for an interactive discussion on navigating BC’s public healthcare system, accessing telemedicine, and exploring healthcare career pathways.

Introducing Avee Health and MSP-Covered Telemedicine

The session featured clear, practical presentations from our team:

  • Ali introduced Avee Health and explained how our telemedicine platform works seamlessly within BC’s public healthcare system.
  • Elham shared insights into the Medical Office Assistant (MOA) role and exciting career opportunities in healthcare.
  • I presented CareRipples, our community-based initiative dedicated to raising healthcare system awareness and volunteer engagement.

We walked attendees through how MSP-covered virtual care works, how to register on the Avee Health platform, how to book appointments, and how better understanding of primary care pathways can help reduce unnecessary visits to emergency rooms.

For many participants — especially job seekers — this information brought welcome clarity to options they didn’t fully realize were available to them.

An Interactive and Energized Session

What stood out most was the high energy and engagement in the room. Attendees asked thoughtful questions about healthcare access in BC, the reliability of telemedicine, career pathways, and ways to get involved in the community.

It was a powerful reminder that healthcare literacy is more than a system issue — it’s a real community need. People want straightforward, reliable information so they can access care efficiently and reduce stress in their daily lives.

Strengthening Community and Employment Partnerships

WorkBC plays a vital role in supporting job seekers and employers throughout British Columbia. When individuals can navigate healthcare more confidently, workforce stability improves, stress decreases, and productivity rises.
