Frequently asked questions about Igbo-speaking doctors in BC

Can I see a doctor who speaks Igbo?
Yes. Avee's Igbo-speaking doctors are shown on this page, and you choose your own doctor when you book. Each doctor's available times differ; if an Igbo-speaking doctor isn't free at the time you want, you can pick another time or see another doctor.
Is an online doctor visit free in BC?
Doctor visits are free for BC residents with a valid health card (MSP). Without MSP, each visit is $49 for private patients. A doctor's note (for example, for work) is a separate, paid service.
How does the visit work? Do I need to download an app?
No. After you book, the doctor calls you around your appointment time. You don't need an app or a smartphone — a regular phone is enough.
Which BC cities can I use the service from?
Anywhere in British Columbia: Vancouver, Surrey, Burnaby, Langley, Abbotsford, Kelowna, Victoria, Prince George and smaller towns. The visit happens by phone, so you don't need to travel to a clinic.
Can I renew my prescription and pick up my medication at a pharmacy near me?
Yes. Tell the doctor clearly about your condition and the medications you take. If the doctor writes a prescription, it goes straight to the pharmacy you choose, where you pick up your medication.
Can I continue a medication I was taking in Nigeria?
Have the medication's name, dose and, if possible, the box or old prescription ready. The doctor reviews your situation and may prescribe the same medication or an equivalent available in Canada. The final decision is the doctor's, and no prescription is guaranteed in advance.
Can I get blood tests or a specialist referral?
Yes. If the doctor thinks it's needed, you get a lab requisition to use at a lab near you, or a referral to a specialist.
My parents are visiting and don't have MSP. Can they see a doctor?
Yes. Visitors without MSP pay $49 per visit as private patients and can pay by card when booking. You can help them book.
How far ahead do I need to book?
Avee offers same-day appointments: you can book even a few minutes ahead and talk to a doctor the same day.
What should I do in an emergency?
Avee is not for emergencies. In an emergency, call 911 right away or go to the nearest hospital emergency department.
