Italian Day on the Drive: A Celebration of Champions
This past Sunday, June 14, Avee Health had the privilege of joining thousands of Vancouverites on Commercial Drive for Italian Day on the Drive, one of the city’s most vibrant and beloved community celebrations.
This year’s theme, Campione, meaning Champion, could not have felt more fitting. With the FIFA World Cup 2026 bringing global attention to Vancouver and British Columbia, the energy on the Drive was full of pride, movement, music, food, sport, and connection.
For us, it was also a reminder that champions are not only found on the field. They are found in families supporting one another, volunteers giving their time, neighbours stopping to listen, and communities coming together around shared needs.
More Than a Booth
Our team did not come to Italian Day simply to hand out information. We came to listen.
Throughout the day, we spoke with hundreds of visitors about the real challenges many people face when trying to access healthcare in BC. For some, it means long waits. For others, it means not knowing where to go for a simple prescription renewal, a medical question, or timely support when their regular care option is not available.
These conversations matter because healthcare can feel stressful, confusing, and out of reach. At Avee, our mission is to help bridge that gap by making access to primary care easier, more timely, and more connected to everyday life.
Through Avee, eligible BC residents can access MSP-covered telemedicine appointments with doctors, often from home, work, or a local community pharmacy. Virtual care is not a replacement for every type of healthcare need, but it can be an important doorway for many common concerns, especially when people need timely guidance and support.
CareRipples in Action
At our booth, visitors were invited to add their initials to our banner. Together, those initials helped build a collective QR code, a visual reminder that every person has a role in creating better access to care.
This is the heart of our CareRipple initiative.
A ripple begins with one small action. One person shares a resource. One family learns about a care option. One volunteer starts a conversation. One community member helps another find a path to support.
At Italian Day, every signature, every question, every story, and every moment of connection became part of something larger. These were CareRipples in action, small moments that can expand outward and help more people feel seen, supported, and informed.
One Note. One Hero. One Community.
The theme of Campione celebrated the spirit of champions, and we saw that spirit everywhere on Commercial Drive.
We saw it in our volunteers. We saw it in the people who stopped by to ask questions. We saw it in families who cared enough to learn how Avee may help their loved ones access care when they need it.
At Avee, we believe healthcare is stronger when it is built on connection, not barriers. Italian Day reminded us that community is not just where healthcare happens. Community is how healthcare becomes more human.
Siamo tutti Campioni. We are all champions.
